The Shipboard Incinerator type is designed for on board incineration of ship's waste oil and solid.
The incinerator is capable of burning all types of solid waste which are listed below :

Refuse consisting of an approximately even mixture of rubbish and garbage by weight and containing up to 50% moisture and up to 7% incombustibles.

The incinerator plant consists of three main parts, the flue gas fan, the flue damper and the combustion chamber with electric control panel.

 
 
 

The combustion chamber is a circular chamber, equipped with a loading and ash door which can be opened only while the incinerator is not burning.
A locking device will prevent the door from being opened before the combustion chamber has cooled down below 200℃. The trash is ignited by heat from the burner.

The flue gas outlet is at the top of the chamber for most efficient use of the flames.
The flames follows a corkscrew pattern towards the bottom and continue rotation upwards in the center of the combustion chamber.
Remnants of particulate matters in the gas flow are neutralized by the burner so it is ecologically safe. As the fumes leaves the chamber, cooling air drawn from the lower part of the casing is mixed with them to bring the temperature down to below 350℃ before it is drawn out by the flue gas fan and blown out the smokestack.

The burning process is monitored by an PLC and scanned by photo resistor.
The temperatures is monitored/regulated automatically by means of two thermocouples/PLC. A sight glass in the front wall is equipped for the operator to be able to watch the condition of burning in the chamber and the
function of the system.

The combustion chamber are of steel construction, lined with specially designed refractory blocks insulated on the outside with 50 mm H.T.B insulation.
The refractory material is made in a low cement/high alumina quality being slag resistant and having very good thermal shock resistance. A double steel casing with a cooling air jacket forms the outside of the combustion chamber.

The combustion chamber is equipped with a two-stage diesel oil burner and an air atomizing nozzle for W.O.

The D.O burner has 2 stages which are automatically regulated by the PLC.
In addition there is a third stage burning using compressed air for atomizing.
The W.O burner allows particles up to 4 mm to pass through.

The burner is monitored/regulated by thermocouple/PLC and have built in primary air fan and diesel oil pump.

Operating switches on the control panel will allow 3 burning alternatives :

1. Operation of the incinerator by using diesel oil only.
2. Operation using both diesel oil and W.O.
3. Operation using W.O only, if the W.O is of sufficient quality.

The electrical control panel is installed on the incinerator and it contains fuses, all starters, PLC, auxiliary relays, indicators and switches. The electric panel is built according to international standards for marine equipment. The front of the panel has a mimic diagram with indications for easy operation of the system.

 

The purpose of the flue gas fan is transportation of the flue gas from the combustion chamber and the fan creates negative pressure in the furnace.The same fan draws ambient air through the cooling jacket on the combustion chamber and the hot gas from the furnace is diluted with the cooling air at the flue gas outlet on the combustion chamber in order to reduce the temperature to Max. 350℃.

 

The automatic flue gas damper will adjust the gas flow in the flue gas duct and it is being controlled from the electric control panel which is sensing the negative pressure in the furnace and regulating the pressure to set level.

A tool set consists of a hand pump with flexible hose and a hydraulic nut with accessories.
(Distance collar, mounting collar).
( The working pressure of the Pump used should not be below 150MP )

The following safety switches indicate red alarm signals for the given conditions.
When a external alarm signal is given the red light in the "Reset" switch will be activated

 

The PLC control panel has a Diff. Press Transmitter monitoring the negative pressure in the furnace. The PLC operates the flue gas damper and if the negative pressure drops below -5mmWg an alarm is indicated.
The burner stops and a external alarm is given. In order to start the incinerator again the "Reset" switch has to be activated.

 

The sensor placed in the top of the furnace will detect temp.
The PLC will stop the burner if the furnace temperature exceeds 1200℃.
An alarm will be indicated and a external alarm is given after approx. 3 sec.
In order to start the incinerator again the "Reset" switch has to be activated.

 

The sensor placed in the flue gas duct will detect flue gas temperature.
The PLC will stop the burner if the flue gas temperature exceeds 350℃.
An alarm will be indicated and a external alarm is given after approx. 3 sec.
In order to start the incinerator again the "Reset" switch has to be activated.

 

If the diesel oil pressure drops below 5 Kg/㎠ the burner stop.
An alarm is indicated and a external alarm is given. In order to start the incinerator again the "Reset" switch has to be activated.

 

If the waste oil pressure drops below 0.2 Kg/㎠ the burner stop.
An alarm is indicated and a external alarm is given. In order to start the incinerator again the "Reset" switch has to be activated.

 

If the air pressure drops below 3 Kg/㎠, the burner will stop.
An alarm is indicated and a external alarm is given. In order to start the incinerator again the "Reset" switch has to be activated.

 

A flame eye is located in the burner assembly to control the flame.
A flame signal at 36 sec. from the start position of the program for burner, results in shut-down of start-up sequence. If no flame signal has been received (flame is not established) by completion of the safety time(36 sec. from start position) the result will be flame failure and lockout of the program for burner. An alarm will be indicated and a external alarm is given. In order to start the incinerator again the "Reset" switch has to be activated.

 

All motor are protected in all phases by a motor circuit breaker. If a motor is being overloaded the motor and burner stops.
An alarm is indicated and a external alarm is given. In order to start the incinerator again the faulty circuit breaker has to be reset.

 

If the waste oil temperature for sludge burner is above 90℃ or below 60℃.
Only an alarm is indicated and red light on.

 

The garbage door is being locked electrically if the combustion chamber temp. exceeds 200℃. When the combustion chamber temperature is below 200℃, door release green lamp will be indicated and push door release button.
Open the door will stop the burner.
An alarm is indicated and a external alarm is given.
In order to start the incinerator again the door has to be closed.
For safety, when the combustion chamber temp. exceeds 200℃, door release green lamp is out.
Can not release door interlock device and can not open the door.

 

If the voltage drops below 180V, the burner will stop.
An alarm is indicated and a external alarm is given. In order to start the incineratoragain the "Reset" switch has to be activated.
